About Companion Pet Hospital of Fishkill
Dr. Jankunas and Dr. Frederick met at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where Dr. Jankunas attended veterinary school and Dr. Frederick completed his residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine. In 2010, Dr. Jankunas relocated to the Hudson Valley, where Dr. Frederick was practicing equine medicine. They were married in September 2013 and looking to become partners in business as well. It was their dream to have their very own veterinary practice, where they could provide excellent veterinary care for their local community. In 2014, Dr. and Mrs. Ouart, the founding owners of our animal hospital, decided it was time to pass the torch and Drs. Jankunas and Frederick jumped at the opportunity to take over Companion Pet Hospital.
Dr. Jankunas and Dr. Frederick are excited to bring their enthusiasm and energy to the practice, while continuing to provide the same compassionate care that our clients have come to expect.
Our Veterinary Hospital Is AAHA Accredited
Companion Pet Hospital has been accredited by the prestigious American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) as a certified hospital member since 1987 and was recently recognized for practicing the gold standard of veterinary medicine for 25 consecutive years. Only 12 percent of all small animal hospitals in the U.S. have achieved accreditation by the Association, and it is an important milestone to delivering quality pet care. AAHA is the only organization in the U.S. and Canada that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards that go above and beyond state regulations. The AAHA Standards of Accreditation, viewed as the standard of veterinary excellence, contain more than 900 individual standards, divided into 19 sections. These areas of focus include:
- Patient care
- Pain management
- Exam facilities
- Medical records
- Emergency services
- Dental care
- Diagnostic imaging
- Continuing education
Consistently meeting or exceeding AAHA’s strict guidelines and standards for excellence is a source of great pride for the entire team.
We Are Accredited by the American Association of Feline Practitioners
Since early 2016, Companion Pet Hospital of Fishkill has been a certified “Feline Friendly” practice, meeting the standards laid out by the AAFP, or the American Association of Feline Practitioners. We are proud to be the only animal hospital in the Putnam County area and the only one in southern Dutchess County that have achieved this accreditation.
The American Association of Feline Practitioners provides care guidelines for feline veterinarians, ensuring that all treatment protocols are based upon the highest feline veterinary standards and a thorough understanding of the needs of feline patients. Veterinary visits may be stressful for cats, but having an animal hospital that understands the unique handling needs of cats can help to make each visit more enjoyable for both the patient and their owner. We are proud to be a part of providing exceptional veterinary care to our feline patients at Companion Pet Hospital of Fishkill.
